When the national convention of the American Institute of Banking met in Grand Rapids in 1939, the planners posed in front of the Pantlind Hotel.. Sixteen men wearing bowler hats and lapel badges and ribbons, designating "Reception," "Transportation," or "Publicity and Press" committees. A few women informally standing in the background, all wearing the same hats.
